Cairo: Bahrain will host on Sunday an online meeting of the foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in preparation for a summit of the council’s leaders that will be held in Riyadh, Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif Al Zayani has said.

“The Kingdom of Bahrain looks forward to a summit that will lead to strengthening the Gulf dialogue to achieve the hoped-for goals for the future,” Al Zayani said, according to the Bahraini news agency BNA.

Bahrain will assume the GCC presidency in its next session, starting in January 2021, under the leadership of King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the official added.

The GCC comprises Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar.

The UAE has stressed the importance of the GCC cohesion and expressed full confidence in Saudi Arabia’s leadership to overcome challenges.

Earlier this week, the UAE said it looks forward to a successful GCC summit in Riyadh that will usher in a new stage of enhancing the Gulf dialogue.

“Sisterly Saudi Arabia’s handling of this file is trusted and inspires optimism,” Dr Anwar Gargash, the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, tweeted Tuesday.
