Cairo: Authorities in a Saudi region have ordered a probe after flash floods battered villages and caused havoc there, according to local media.

Acting Governor of Jazan in south-western Saudi Arabia Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz has ordered the formation of a committee to determine causes behind the shifting course of floods into villages in the governorates of Ahad Al Masarihah and Al Darb, and investigate suspected laxity.

The panel will interrogate those suspected of negligence and present findings to bring any wrongdoer to justice, local authorities said.

A video broadcast by the Saudi television Al Ekhbariya showed flood-hit streets inside Ahad Al Masarihah and Al Darb amid reports of damage to property there. The footage shows powerful floods flowing into roads and floating parked cars.

Several buildings and vehicles in both governorates were damaged as a result, according to Al Ekhbariya.
