Al Ain: Cold Shamal (north-westerly) winds are likely to hit the emirates causing a “significant” drop in temperatures and could roughen up waters in the Arabian Gulf.

The national weather bureau has advised people to stay away from the sea as winds could reach a speed of 60km/h. Similar, windy conditions are also expected along the UAE’s western coastline.

The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) said the winds would be associated with a “significant” fall in temperatures on Sunday. Winds are also likely to blow dust and sand in the open inland areas that could reduce horizontal visibility during the next 48 hours.

The centre said that there are chances of clouds formation over the UAE islands in the Arabian Gulf at times. The forecast, however, did not predict chances of rain in the cloudy areas. The sea will be rough to very rough and the condition is likely to spread over to the Gulf of Oman as well, said the forecast.
