Dubai: The visually impaired and seriously ill Sri Lankan father who was helped by Gulf News readers to return home has died in his native country.
Mohammad Mansour, father of four, who lived in the UAE for many years died a few days ago, four months after he landed there.
Travel ban
Mansour who lost his eyesight and was jobless here was helped by Gulf News readers to pay back his bank loans and get the travel ban — imposed on him by banks in the UAE — lifted after the readers paid his loans. Mansour received help as his only wish was to be with his family.
Mansour, 47, died in a hospital in Sri Lanka due to kidney failure. He travelled to his home country with his family from Sharjah airport with help from Gulf News readers who paid for the tickets.
Mansour passed away leaving his wife and his children with no one to support them back home.
"He suffered serious health problems after he went home. He was admitted to a hospital for treatment but he suffered kidney failure," a friend of Mansour told Gulf News.
The friend said Mansour was happy and grateful to everybody who helped him return home.
"His wish was to be with his family in Sri Lanka," the friend said.
The friend who lives in Sharjah said he had received a tearful message on his mobile phone from Mansour's little daughter saying that her father had passed away.
Treatment
"We feel sorry for his family," said the friend.
Mansour used to work as an accountant in a clinic in Ajman. He lived in the UAE for five years and lost his sight after he went for eye treatment at a private clinic in Sharjah.
He also received a travel ban from different banks here after he failed to pay back his loans.
