The serial killer Javed Iqbal Mughal and his accomplice Sajid who committed suicide on Tuesday were buried in a graveyard near Kot Lakhpat Jail last night as nobody claimed their bodies.

The family of Javed, who had been convicted of killing 100 children, had already disowned him and that of Sajid too did not reach the mortuary to collect his body.

Only some jail officials, policemen and few passersby were present at the time of the burial.
The Imam of the Jail colony mosque led the prayers. The burial was filmed for the jail record.

A board of doctors had earlier conducted autopsy on the bodies but they did not submit their report saying it would be presented to authorities in a couple of days.

However, sources at city mortuary, quoting initial findings of the autopsy, said the condemned prisoners were strangled and not hanged. "There is a visible difference between hanging and strangulation," they said.

They said that besides the strangulation mark, there were also injuries found on the body of Javed. The initial findings strengthen the suspicions that both the inmates might have been murdered.

Javed, in his many letters to various people and organisations had complained of torture by jail staff. He had also mentioned in these letters that he was being "encouraged" to commit suicide.

The investigators are looking into the death of Javed and Sajid in their respective cells at the same time and in the same mode which raised serious doubts about the claim of jail authorities that they committed suicide. Both the death row inmates were found dead hanging from the bars of their cells from the sheets knotted around their necks.
