Dubai: Get ready for a unique artistic collaboration – Ahmed Al Hashemi, the 14-year-old Emirati pianist, who is on the autism spectrum, is all set to team up with a Korean dance troupe comprised of visually impaired dancers, for a special show in Abu Dhabi.
Hashemi, recently gained prominence as an Emirati musical prodigy. Despite his autism, Ahmed has won multiple international competitions and has performed in more than 40 stages, in countries such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and South Korea.
He will share the stage with Luxbit Art Company, a pioneering South Korean dance troupe that challenges societal norms and defies expectations.
Founded in 2013, Luxbit Art Company combines visually impaired and non-impaired dancers, performing works that blend traditional Korean dance with ballet.
Their mission is to demonstrate that disability is not a barrier. The company holds annual performances, and in 2023, they showcased their work at the (Unesco United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) headquarters in Paris.
The word ‘Lux’ in the troupe’s name stands for the words ‘Light, ‘Unique’, and ‘X’ the symbol for ‘Infinity’. Lux also means ‘light’ in Latin, encompassing the idea of light.
Their performance titled ‘stars, lights, and dances’, will take place on Monday, October 28, at 6pm, at the Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination in Shakhbout City, Abu Dhabi.
The show, under the theme ‘Beyond Fear and Darkness’, is organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to the UAE and the Korean Cultural Center in the UAE.
According to a press release issued by the Korean Cultural Center in the UAE, Yong Hee Lee, the Cultural Attaché of the Korean Embassy has invited people to attend the show, which is free and open to public.
