A new port will be built on Ras Al Khaimah Corniche to enable fishermen to ply their trade separately, said a senior municipal official.

Mubarak Ali Al Shamsi, Director General of Ras Al Khaimah Municipality, said the port was one aspect of a wider development plan for the Corniche.

The Western Corniche needed a lot of improvement and the local government was allocating a budget for this, he said.

A team of professionals has been assigned to start work on the project as soon as possible. Large areas of the sea will be reclaimed, and commercial buildings built there, he said.

The work will need time, he said, but the government was determined to develop this area to help with the expansion of the city of Ras Al Khaimah.
