Mark Knopfler will be on stage at Dubai Media City on March 3 to play some of the best from Dire Straits and his solo career.

Padma Coram of Talent Brokers told Gulf News that Knopfler and his band of sessions musicians are on a world tour.

"The tour starts in South Africa, then comes to Dubai followed by India, Australia, probably America and some European countries," she said.

"It will be a one-night show in Dubai. About 6,000 to 7,000 people are expected to attend the concert at the Dubai Media City's amphitheatre.

"Mark Knopfler is looking forward to being here. This is the first time he will perform in the Middle East.

"Organisers in Lebanon, Jordan and Qatar wanted him to perform there, but he could not accommodate them because of time constraints," Coram said.

The show in Dubai is being presented by The Talent Brokers (Events) and Buzz Productions.

Knopfler's career spans more than 25 years and is dotted with such classics from Dire Straits as Sultans of Swing, Tunnel of Love, Once a Upon a Time in the West, Romeo and Juliet, Money for Nothing, Walk of Life and So Far Away.

His solo career and collaborations with Chet Atkins and the Notting Hillbillies have made him one of rock's most versatile musicians.

More than four million watched him in the Every Street World Tour. Dire Straits played 234 shows in 365 days for the Brother in Arms Tour.
