Dr Vece Paes, former Indian Olympian and father of Indian tennis star Leander Paes, will arrive in the UAE this month to conduct a seminar on Sports Medicine for cricketers and cricket teams.

Dr Paes has been appointed by the Asian Cricket Council to coordinate the aspects of physical training, especially with the associate members.

"Dr Paes is coming here as a part of a tour to various associate member countries," Mazhar Khan, the Emirates Cricket Board Administrator, told Gulf News yesterday.

Dr Paes will also tour the Sultanate of Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait in the Gulf region. He is also expected to tour Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and associate countries.

Mazhar Khan said that Dr. Paes would conduct a seminar on Sports Medicine at the Sharjah Stadium during his three-day stay here. "We will invite representative of all three councils to attend the seminar," he pointed out.

Dr Paes has also been entrusted with the task of training physiotherapists in associate member countries. Dr Paes was recently named by the Asian Cricket Council to undertake training of physiotherapist and conduct seminars on sports medicine for ACC member states, especially associate member countries.

"The idea is to simultaneously spread awareness about the related fields while concentrating on the development of the game in areas where cricket is relatively new," Mazhar Khan said. The Emirates Cricket Board will host Dr Paes.
