A housemaid was cleared of allegedly stealing her employer's safe containing nearly Dh30,000 in cash and jewellery and two other suspects were acquitted.

The Dubai Court of First Instance dismissed the charges against H.S., 30, a Palestinian clerk, and D.M., 22, a Syrian security guard.

The female suspect, A.Z., 33, an Uzbek housemaid, was also cleared.

The general prosecution had charged the housemaid with stealing her employer's safe, which included more than Dh30,000 in cash money and jewellery along with personal documents. The other two suspects had been charged with being accomplices.

On March 3, the victim, S.B., 29, an Uzbek housewife, reported to the police that her safe was stolen from her apartment in Khor Al Anz. The victim had rented the apartment from H.S. in October. She stayed there with her husband, the housemaid and two Uzbek female friends.

The victim said she went out that evening with her husband and two friends and when she returned at 3 a.m. the housemaid was not home.

The victim called A.Z. on her mobile phone but it was switched off.

The building's Indian watchman, Z.S., 42, testified he saw the housemaid and two other suspects leave the building ten minutes before the victim returned.

They were carrying bags and nylon sacks, but they were not carrying a safe. The watchman said he asked them about what they were carrying and was told they were A.Z.'s belongings.

The three suspects maintained their innocence, refuting S.B.'s testimony. The court dismissed the charges for lack of evidence.
