Dubai: Social media users have endorsed a call by Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, insisting that there should be no differentiation made in the war on terror between groups like Daesh and the militias operating in Iraq, including the Iranian-backed Hashed Shaabi.

“The war against terrorism does not differentiate between Daesh, Al Nusra and the Hashed Shaabi groups in Syria and Iraq that are supported by Iran. There is no good terrorism and bad terrorism,” Shaikh Abdullah said on Friday.

But, while Iraqi officials rushed to downplay the comparison and to draw a line on comparisons between the two terror groups, online users warmly applauded Shaikh Abdullah for his statement, and said that he was “absolutely right in his approach”.

Within hours, hashtags such as “We are all Abdullah Bin Zayed” and “Hashed Shaabi is terror group” trended in the UAE and several Arab countries.

Many users posted video clips showing Hashed Shaabi perpetrating terror acts.

Some users said that the militia claimed that it was fighting Daesh, but was in fact targeting Sunnis in Iraq.

Others said that it was a sectarian terror group with a dark agenda.

Several users averred that the Hashed Shaabi is a proxy militia carrying out the political agenda of the Iranian regime in Iraq.

“Regardless of their names, they are all terror groups that are targeting countries and people, and the international community has to fight them,” Mansoor Al Raeesi from the UAE posted.
