Abu Dhabi: Motorists can now transfer the ownership of their vehicles online through the Abu Dhabi Police website.
The police announced on Saturday that it is providing the new service online.
Motorists have to visit customer happiness centres only once, to provide a mobile number to get an SMS from the Licensing Department when doing the transaction with the approval code, informing the seller of the completion of transaction. The buyer will also receive an SMS, informing him/her of the registration.
For those who have traffic fines registered on their vehicles the ownership of which is to be transferred, the fines are to be paid so that they become eligible for the service.
Meanwhile, if the buyer has another vehicle with expired registration, he or she would not be eligible for the service.
However, if the motorists want to transfer or change the plate number, they have to follow known procedures, handing over the plate number to the nearest service centre before paying the fees. The transaction is deemed cancelled if the client did not hand over the plate number and pay the fees.
