Abu Dhabi: An animal activist in Dubai who rescued a paralysed Arabian Mau cat last month is seeking financial help to fund the cat’s medical treatment.

On June 20, the cat Jasmine was found lying paralysed in Al Manara Street, Jumeirah. “She was lying motionless in someone’s driveway. There were no external bruises but she was paralysed waist down. A lady gave her some food, water and called me after which we took her to a veterinary hospital,” said Kay Ivanova, founder of 38 smiles, a non-profit animal rescue group.

On July 1 Jasmine underwent surgery followed by ‘cage rest’ at the Vienna Veterinary Clinic.

“The surgery costs have been met, but we are seeking help to pay for Jasmine’s cage rest (Dh75 a night) and physiotherapy.”

Blizzard’s tale

Meanwhile Abu Dhabi-based Animal Action is seeking help to treat an abandoned one-year-old husky with skin disease caused by mites. “Blizzard is a stray dog with his body covered with skin disease,” said Mel Stones, Founder. British expat David Pryce, fostering Blizzard in his Al Shamkha house, said: “When I brought him, his had no fur. He needed injections, vaccinations and medical treatment to get better. His condition is improving, but his recovery is likely to take longer.”
