Dubai: Shaikha Maitha Bint Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum led Team UAE to an emphatic 6-1.5 win over Team Europe ‘A’ to lift the inaugural Ralph Lauren International Ladies Polo Tournament held at the Desert Palm Polo Club.
With Shaikha Maitha marshalling the defence, it was Saskiya Meadows who helped Team UAE lead 2-1.5 at the end of the first chukker. Fast-moving Camilla Rossi stepped up with two goals in the second chukker to help the home side lead comfortably 6-1.5 at the end of the second.
There were no further goals in the next two chukkers and Team UAE went on to win the inaugural edition of this tournament.
Holding on a 4.5 handicap advantage, Team Europe ‘B’ ended as the third best team with a 10.5-9 result in the fight for third place against Team Asia.
Team Asia caught up with Team Europe ‘B’ by the half-time period to lead 6.5-6. But Team Europe ‘B’ hung in there and Sabine Schaffer scored to help her team lead 7.5-6. Then Lucy Taylor, who was on an extremely fast horse, added two quick goals to them Team Europe ‘B’ further away 10.5-6.
Early in the final chukker, Sunny scored three goals for Team Asia to come within striking distance. But unfortunately, Team Asia ran out of time.
