For Brooke Shields, ex-husband Andre Agassi is gone but not quite forgotten: She got a zinger in against him this week while co-hosting a Today show segment about divorce.
Shields and Willie Geist were talking to Laura Wasser — divorce attorney to stars including Angelina Jolie, Ryan Reynolds, Ashton Kutcher and Kim Kardashian — about her new book. While discussing how to divorce without destroying or bankrupting a family, Shields was reminded of an anecdote from her own 1999 split from the tennis pro. (The two were married less than two years.)
“I am divorced and mine was very quick and relatively easy,” Shields said, “but it was an interesting thing because he quote unquote, did say to me, ‘Be happy we don’t have children or I would not have made this easy for you.’
“Therein lies why I’m not there anymore,” she tacked on.
Point to Shields.
Still, the former child model has said that her first marriage was important to her in terms of becoming “individualised from my mother... There was a lot of confidence I needed to gain and I was able to do that through my first husband.”
OK, maybe the score remains love-love.
Shields remarried in 2001, to TV writer-producer Chris Henchy, and they have two daughters together. Agassi married fellow tennis pro Steffi Graf in 2001, and they have a boy and a girl.
