Katy Perry, Ranbir Kapoor and George Clooney aren’t just superstars in their fields of music, Bollywood and Hollywood, they’re also artists — and if you don’t believe, check out their work on display in Dubai this week.

Prints (not originals) of 25 celebrity artworks will be exhibited at the inaugural World Art Dubai, an art fair at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) from Wednesday. 20 of the pieces were created for the Whatever It Takes initiative that uses the funds raised through the sale of the celebrity artworks for charitable projects worldwide.

Pieces on display in Dubai include those by Samuel L. Jackson, George Clooney, Morgan Freeman, Pierce Brosnan, Daniel Craig, Ewan McGregor and Kapoor.

Five other pieces by Katy Perry, Naomi Campbell, Charlize Theron, Penelope Cruz and Nicole Kidman will be on display as part of a Peace and Hope Wall, where visitors can also add their own designs.

“The most striking aspect of the collection is how the celebrities’ personalities shine through in their works,” said Trixie LohMirmand, senior vice president of exhibitions and events management at DWTC. “No limitations were imposed and the artists had free rein to create works reflecting their own responses to the project’s principal themes. Some chose peace and unity, others opted for love and hope, and others veered towards a more environmentalist take on the themes — it is a very visceral and heart-warming exhibit.”

Other works on display include photography by Moby and Julian Lennon and David LaChapelle. Prices for the more than 2,000 pieces of work on sale start from Dh110.
