Dubai: A top National Iranian Gas Co (NIGC) official said yesterday the company is in talks with neighbouring countries about supplying gas for domestic demand, but these talks have been noncommittal.
When asked about recent Iranian media reports carried by Iran's Press TV and Mehr news agency that Qatar is seeking to import natural gas from the South Pars field in Iran to meet rising domestic demand for fuel, NIGC Public Manager Mohsen Shojaei said Iran is constantly talking to its neighbours.
"It is kindly noted that Iran as the second owner of gas in the world, and for the purpose of marketing its own products, is in constant contacts with potential customers and those neighbours interested in purchasing gas," he said in an emailed statement to Zawya Dow Jones.
Press TV recently cited Mehr news that Qatar was facing gas shortages at home due to its LNG exports.
