Dubai: Singapore Airlines (SIA) will launch regular flights to Abu Dhabi in March, its second destination in the UAE alongside present flights to Dubai.

Singapore Airlines will be the only carrier operating between Abu Dhabi and Singapore, with three flights a week using the Boeing 777-200 aircraft from March 1, it said.

"The UAE is a major destination for tourism and investment and the new flights will help to build those links," said Huang Cheng Eng, Singapore Airlines Executive Vice-President for Marketing and the Regions.

Successful

SIA is one of Asia's biggest and most successful carriers. Singapore Airlines earlier announced flying to Moscow via Dubai from March 1.

Flights will depart Singapore every Monday, Wed-nesday and Friday evening, arriving the next morning at Moscow's Domodedovo Airport, via Dubai.

The return flight will depart Moscow every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday morning and arrive in Singapore, again via Dubai, early the following day.

Singapore Airlines will fly a three-class Boeing 777-200 aircraft on this new route.

With this new destination, Singapore Airlines will fly 74 times a week to 10 cities in Europe.

This new service will enhance the already emerging business and leisure ties between Russia and Singapore. It will also increase options available to customers when travelling between Eastern Europe, South East Asia and the South West Pacific.

The move reflects expanded traffic between the UAE and Singapore and takes place prior to Abu Dhabi-based carrier Etihad's launch of flights to the Southeast Asian island state.

The Singapore-UAE route is served mostly by SIA and Dubai-based Emirates.

Emirates used Singapore for its Australian services in the 1990s. However, the carrier now operates mostly non-stop flights to Australia using its ultra long-range aircraft.

The number of destinations in the route network will also increase to 63 in 34 countries.
