Manama: Qatar-based Filipino families will this year join the worldwide search for the 2010 Model OFW Family of the Year Awards in the Philippines.

Dayang Dayang Sitti Jaafar, welfare officer of the Philippine Overseas Labour Office, said the two nominations submitted to their office, were just in time for the September 17 deadline.

It is not too late for other community groups to submit their entries to the contest which recognises the outstanding achievements of expatriate workers and their families and promotes the best practice in managing family challenges, Qatari daily The Peninsula reported.

Frank Jamandre one of the nominees will represent the OFWs (overseas Filipino workers) in Qatar at the global conference of the US-based Solidarity International, a global network that looks after the rights and welfare of migrant workers. The conference will be held in Indonesia on September 24.

Criteria

Entries are judged on family and community involvement and professional, educational and financial success, among other factors.

The awards ceremony will take place in December. Two winners will be chosen and two special awards will be conferred including Outstanding Achievement in Community Projects and Outstanding Achievement in Entrepreneurship.

The annual awards ceremony aims to serve as role models for the OFW population, promote success stories about OFW families, improve the general morale of OFW families and highlight the role of the OFW family in the community.
