Manama: Doha is celebrating the marriage of 11 Palestinians who have been released from Israeli prisons under a deal reached last year by Hamas and Israel.

Leaders from the Islamist movement are expected to attend the ceremonies on Thursday evening at a hotel in the Qatari capital, local Arabic daily Al Arab reported.

The Palestinians have been living in Qatar since October when they were released under the breakthrough deal that freed Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit in exchange for the release of 1,027 Palestinians from Israeli prisons.

Families of the brides and grooms have already arrived in Qatar for the celebrations, the daily said.
