Manama: Charitable organisations in Qatar have raised QR20m ($5.5 million) for the relief and rehabilitation of flood victims in Pakistan amid hopes that the figure will reach QR100m ($27.452 million) in the near future.
Support for the homeless and destitute has been pouring from official and private establishments.
Shaikh Thani Foundation for Humanitarian Aid (RAF) will set up medical camps and distribute medicines as well as drinking water in the flood-affected areas. It will also provide ambulances for the relief of flood victims.
Qatar Charity will provide QR13m for various relief and rehabilitation projects in the flood-hit areas of Pakistan through various international charities active there. It will send 18 tonnes of food items for the flood victims through Qatar Airways.
The organisations are also actively taking part in donation mobilization as well as relief and rehabilitation effort in Pakistan. A team from Shaikh Eid Charity is assessing the situation in the flood-affected areas and will provide iftar meals to 20,000 flood victims as part of the aid package, Qatari daily The Peninsula reported on Saturday.
Last month, a rescue team from Qatar’s Lakwiya took food and medical aid to the flood victims.
A team from Qatari Naval Forces has also gone to Pakistan for relief work in the flood affected areas. The armed forces have dispatched medical teams as well.
