Muscat: Twenty-seven infiltrators trying to enter Oman through the Batinah coast were caught by the Royal Oman Police's (ROP) Coast Guards, according to a press release on Wednesday.

"The infiltrators were caught after a long chase by Coast Guard boats along the Sohar coast," a spokesperson for the ROP said.

The infiltrators were handed over to Shinas Police Station to complete the legal procedures.

In another development, the ROP with the officials of the Manpower Ministry carried out raids on several housing units in Hamriya and Mawaleh Fruit and Vegetable Market and caught 272 expatriates for violating residency laws while 19 domestic workers were held for absconding from their employers.

The police have said that the campaign against illegal immigrants as well as those violating residency rules will continue.

The police has appealed to all residents not to harbour any illegal immigrants and not to hire absconding workers.
