Saudi Arabia stopped assistance in the form of 50,000 barrels of oil per day to Bahrain three months ago. This was revealed by Speaker Khalifa Al Dahrani to the Council of Representatives.

Addressing the members of the Council who were demanding that the government pay citizens a cash bonus for the holidays, Al Dahrani said: "We do not have any more resources. After the oil has dried up here, we have nothing to leave for the future generation."

He then told the MPs that Saudi Arabia had stopped giving Bahrain the usual grant, consisting of 50,000 barrels of oil per day since July this year. He did not cite any reason.

Abdullah Saif, Minister of Finance and National Economy, however, said that the government was "holding consultations with the government of Saudi Arabia on bilateral oil arrangements."

The minister hoped that the consultations would be fruitful for the sake of the two countries and their peoples. But he did not elaborate on the issue.

The House has passed a motion to pay families a bonus of 500 dinars (around Dh5,000) from a budget surplus, which is expected due to the surge in oil prices.
