Manama: Twenty young monkeys ran amok in Eisa town on Sunday, leaping from one house to the next and climbing trees, according to a report in a local newspaper on Monday.

Concerned residents called the Civil Defence Department for help.

Civil defence personnel chased the troublesome simians, who finally settled in a private garden in Jerdab.

Khalid Ahmad, a civil defence employee, told Gulf News that only one monkey was caught, while the rest managed to escape to nearby gardens.

"The monkeys escaped from an animal yard in the area," Ahmad said. He added that they belonged to a Bahraini national who yesterday came to claim the trapped simian.

Ahmad said that the search had been called off. He said that until yesterday evening, the civil defence had not received any complaints from residents.
