Ajman: One worker was killed and four were seriously injured after a septic tank collapsed in a building under construction yesterday, police said.
Colonel Ali Abdullah Alwan, Chief of Ajman Police, said the workers were working in the septic tank when it collapsed. He said: "The incident occurred when they were unloading bags of cement. The building is single storeyed."
Stable condition
Hamad Taryam, Director of Ajman Medical Zone and Director-General of Khalifa Hospital, said an Asian worker died on the spot and the other workers, an Egyptian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Indian sustained serious injuries.
They were taken to Khalifa Hospital, where the condition of three are stated to be stable. One worker is still critical.
Police, civil defence and emergency teams rushed to the scene. Police said it took some time to rescue the trapped workers. The site is located in the old industrial area in Ajman on the way to the main Etisalat building.
Officials said the workers work for a company in Ajman and some of them do not have residence papers.
