Gulf News columnist Najla Al Awadhi has written a piece (see related links on the right of the page to read the article)asking who the modern day role models are.

Her article was sparked by her younger sister's preference for entertainment and lifestyle magazines rather than traditional role models.

Who do you see as your role model? It can be a pop star, an actor, a politician. Who was your role model as a child and did they change as you got older?

Have role models changed over the generations? Does it matter that people now look up to Britney instead of Helen Keller?

Please fill in the form below and include your age when nominating a role model.

His Highness Shaikh Mohammed Bin Rashed Al Maktoum is my hero, who is a leader as well as a simple man.

My role model is Pervez Musharraf because he has saved Pakistan not only from sinking but he has also made sure that the country progresses.

I believe times have changed and role models with them. I remember growing up through high school and university with Che Guevara as my role model, but after moving to Dubai, my ideals have changed drastically as I now consider HH Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum the Arab world's most important figure. His vision for the UAE and its implementation have had a domino effect on the whole region. Anywhere you go to in the MENA region, all people talk about is Dubai and how they wished their country would follow suit.

My role model will always be His Highness Shaikh Mohammad. As he has said its needs a man of vision to write on water, true to his words indeed he is a great visionary man and good human being. One will always fall short of words to describe his greatness.

My role models are people who are always creating new ideas in order to reach a new horizon in life. And as I have lived here is Dubai for the last 10 years of my life, I should say that my role model in this country has become Shaikh Mohammad because of his great vision and smart decisions in building Dubai.

Beckham or Britney can never be a role model for me, cos I am living in the world of realities where the lifestyle of these two peoples will never fit. While I praise Shaikh Mohammad as a leader and his hard working, all the world can see how Dubai is growing under his leadership.

Shaikh Mohammad is my role model out of three you mentioned. What is there to follow in Britney or in Beckham. I dont think the comparison is fine. You have to put some corporate heads as the competitor for shaikh mohammad. like Reliance Ambani, Pepsico chief or Richard Branson of Virgin.

My role model is Shaikh Mohammad. He set as the best example for youth on how to manage life no matter what it takes and how to be strong in pursuing dreams and to reach the goal. He is the most kind and intelligent person who helped and touch the lives of many people, of different cultures, faiths, nationalities and interests. For me, he is the true hero! I wish to meet him in person one day.
