Abu Dhabi: Dense fog across Abu Dhabi yesterday led to four accidents that left two people dead and five injured.

"A woman who was driving at excessive speed ran over an Asian woman at the intersection of Al Corniche road and Rashid Bin Saeed road in Abu Dhabi. The police are still investigating the details of the accident," said Lieutenant Colonel Ahmad Al Zayoudi, head of the traffic accidents section.

A truck driver of Asian origin died in a collision between two trucks on the truck highway beyond Emirates roundabout.

Five people also sustained moderate to minor injuries in separate accidents. An accident involving two trucks on Hamim Road left three Asians injured. A fourth accident after Al Ajban Bridge caused injuries to two people.

The traffic and patrols department of Abu Dhabi Police, meanwhile, prohibited trucks from travelling on the outer roads and from entering the city until the fog had cleared.

Colonel Khamis Mohammad, deputy director of the Traffic and Patrol warned motorists to exercise extreme caution given the dangerous driving conditions. He advised people to observe the speed limit, leave sufficient space between vehicles, use only their low-beam lights while warning against unnecessarily using hazard lamps.
