Abu Dhabi: Traffic violations caught on camera in different parts of the city were aired on television for the first time by Abu Dhabi police in a bid to increase awareness.
For a month starting Sunday night, the Abu Dhabi police will air a short TV segment showing serious traffic violations along with the fines and black points for the particular offence.
The segment will be aired on Abu Dhabi TV after the news bulletin in the evening, for the next 30 days.
"Thirty serious traffic offences have been chosen as the theme for the segments, which will be aired under the slogan - You are responsible", Lieutenant Colonel Khalid Al Shamsi of Abu Dhabi police told Gulf News on Saturday.
Jumping the red signal, driving against the traffic, tailgating along highways, driving along the hard shoulder etc are some of the offences that will highlighted, he said.
The footage will show recent traffic violations recorded by the cameras placed to monitor traffic along the streets and will end with the message - You are responsible for your safety and for the safety of others.
"The vehicles that appear in the footage have already been issued with fines", Lft. Col Al Shamsi noted.
If you do not see a patrol car around, it does not mean you could commit an offence, he warned, adding that the city’s streets are monitored round-the-clock.
The objective of the TV segment is to increase awareness on the dangers of committing traffic offences and of reckless driving, while urging drivers to abide by the rules.
Such initiatives are the result of the evolving role of the police from a body that fights crime to a body that takes proactive measures to prevent offences from happening in cooperation with the community members, Lt. Col Al Shamsi added.
The clips will also be uploaded on the website www.adpolice-news.tv
