One thousand students from Abu Dhabi schools will sign a petition against air pollution as part of the ongoing Seventh National Environment Day events.

The programmes will begin on February 22 and conclude with the signing of the petition on February 29, and a parade on the Corniche on March 1. A number of private and public schools have been invited to participate.

"Schools will either be invited to our campus or our environment club members will go to them carrying the petition for signing on February 29," said event organiser Geronimo Obaob of Pisco Private School.

Other activities planned include a poster-and-collage-making contest to highlight different causes of air pollution. It will begin on February 22 and end on February 28 with the announcement of the results.

Another contest will be held for creating slogans for cleaner air, open to students from grades one to four. It will also begin on February 22 with a deadline to submit the slogans by February 28.

Also being organised is a quiz show open to high school students, with four teams each with four contestants. The theme is 'Quiz Bee' and will be about environmental awareness and air pollution. It will be held on February 29.

On March 1, the school will organise a parade for all the students and staff, in addition to inviting students from other schools. They will march through Abu Dhabi Corniche, chanting slogans, displaying banners, and distributing literature on environmental protection.
