The medal was awarded to her in recognition of her role in women development and empowerment
In a statement, Sheikha Fatima said: "The great strides made by UAE women would not have been possible without the support and encouragement of His Highness President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his brothers, the Rulers of the emirates."
The establishment of the UAE Women's Union in 1975 was a result of this support, said Sheikha Fatima, adding that women had been able to realise their aspirations and contribute in the development of their country on equal footing with men.
"The great honour which was conferred upon me today by His Highness the Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah is an honour to all UAE men," said Sheikha Fatima.
