Dubai: The chairman of the Higher Organising Committee for the World Parachuting Championship Mondial 2012 Dubai has called on committee members to select an event organiser capable of depicting the values and remarkable development of the UAE to a global audience during the opening ceremony.

Presiding over the third meeting of the Higher Organising Committee held at the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) last Thursday, Mattar Al Tayer, deputy chairman of DSC and chairman of the Higher Organising Committee instructed the working committee to make a note of the directives of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and DSC Chairman and patron of the championship.

The World Parachuting Championship Mondial 2012 Dubai will be held from November 28 to December 9 at the Sky Dive Dubai site along the edge of The Palm Jumeirah.

"I urge you all to ensure that the opening ceremony includes suspense and excitement, while also reflecting the civilisation and the remarkable development witnessed by the UAE in all sectors," Al Tayer said at the meeting.

The organisers have received bids from four international companies to stage the opening ceremony and the name of the successful bidder will be made known after a proper study has been carried out.

The logo for the championship and the official website was launched last month by Shaikh Mansour Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the World Parachuting Championship Mondial 2012 Dubai.

"We need to endorse a strong plan for marketing this championship, not just in the UAE and the region, but to all corners of the globe, possibly even at the 2012 London Olympics," Al Tayer said.

The committee also showcased the latest ongoing works at the Marina Bridge Airstrip and also discussed the reports of sub-committees dealing with accommodation in prominent hotels.
