Dubai: Expatriates applying to work in the UAE must now use an online form to get their educational certificates verified, a top labour official said.

The requirement also applies to those who had previously got certificates attested the old way, but are applying for a new labour permit, he said.

Last year, the Ministry of Labour said expatriates must have their certificates verified through Emirates Post, at a Dh500 fee.

Labour officials had earlier said expatriates with attested degrees obtained for previous labour permits did not have to get them verified through Emirates Post when applying for a new permit.

However, Ahmad Kajour, undersecretary for planning, told Gulf News yesterday all expatriates who wanted to apply for a new labour permit also had to get their certificates verified through Emirates Post.

He also confirmed some professions needed to have their degrees attested the old way, but said this had nothing to do with the Labour Ministry.

Kajour said the health and education ministries still demanded attested degrees. "That's not in our hands, but we are discussing this with them to see if we can streamline it."
