Gulf Air Cargo yesterday announced that it will implement a 25 fils to 55 fils per kilo war risk insurance surcharge for cargo transported by the carrier. The levy would be effective from October 16.

A similar move was announced by Air France for its cargo operations. It will apply a fixed amount of about 50 fils (0.15 euros) per kilo on cargo carried. The Air France Cargo surcharge will come into effect from October 15.

In an advisory to the trade, Gulf Air yesterday said it will levy an insurance surcharge on actual weight of 55 fils per kilo on routes to North America, Europe, Australia, Far East etc.

On points in the GCC, Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa, the Bahrain-headquartered airline will apply a 25 fils per kilo surcharge.

"Air France Cargo is levying an exceptional surcharge to cover the supplementary costs resulting from government-implemented security restrictions, the substantial increase in insurance costs, and disruptions to operations due indirectly to the security measures and changes in flight paths.

"This surcharge will be applicable from 15 October throughout the network," the airline said adding that different rates apply on the route between France and the U.S.
