Abu Dhabi: The UAE Cabinet on Wednesday approved the national strategy for advanced innovation that will focus on innovation in the quality of health, living, transportation, future skills, environment and water, and development of space industries.
The innovation strategy, which aims to position the UAE among the world’s top leaders of innovation, was approved during a Cabinet meeting chaired by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The national strategy for advanced innovation represents the updated version of the national innovation strategy and marks a new phase that is based on enabling people to shift from focusing on vital sectors to the goals and outcomes in seven areas.
They include exploration, future skills, quality of health, living and life, green power, transport, and harnessing technology to serve humankind.
It aims to develop a type of thinking that encourages experimentation and taking well-thought-out risks to achieve the goals of UAE Centennial 2071.
The strategy also aims to develop future governments, create emerging economic sectors and achieve scientific breakthroughs that focus on the welfare of the people.
Shaikh Mohammad instructed the UAE government to provide all necessary tools to support the efforts of government bodies in achieving best outcomes of the strategy.
“The UAE’s competitiveness is a priority to the government, and the coming phase will witness the launch of a number of development and community initiatives. Initiatives will also be launched to help youth benefit directly from the UAE’s development journey,” said Shaikh Mohammad.
The strategy will launch initiatives that aim to entrench innovation, communication and learning, and encourage the community to take the spirit of initiative, trying out new models of government for serving society, testing advanced economic paradigms, and laying the groundwork to create new sectors.
Developing emerging companies and advanced science and research that lead to scientific breakthroughs contributing to achieving a better future for humankind are also among the goals of the strategy.
The strategy provides grounds to create free and safe spaces for conducting experiments, testing ideas and trying the new regulations and legislation. It sets up a national platform that inspires innovation and entrepreneurship among emirates, and encourage them to launch pilot initiatives in collaboration with leading international institutions and companies specialised in the field of innovation.
