Dubai: The family of Harry Harling, a 16-year-old British student who died on Saturday after falling from a building, has asked the public to respect their privacy.

In a statement circulated by the British Embassy on behalf of the family, the Harlings said they still have no official information about the circumstances of Harry's death.

"This is an extremely tragic and difficult time for our family. No official information on the circumstances around Harry's death has yet been made available by Dubai Police. We are grateful for the support we have received already from many people but would like to ask all to respect our privacy as we learn more about the circumstances of Harry's death, grieve and come to terms with the loss of a wonderful son and brother," the family said in the statement, a copy of which was received by Gulf News.

The embassy urged the media and public to respect the family's wishes.

"This is a statement we are circulating on behalf of the Harling family. We would appreciate your cooperation in respecting the wishes of the family," the embassy said.

Harry, a Gems Jumeirah College Year 11 student, fell to his death from the 11th floor of a building under construction in MotorCity early morning on Saturday, according to Dubai Police.

In an earlier statement, police said he was attending a party with some friends when a group of friends had an argument and the victim stormed out and went to a building under construction from where he plunged to his death. The suspected cause of death was suicide.
