Dubai: The national weather bureau has allayed concerns on a “storm” brewing in the Arabian Sea.
“It’s not a storm; it’s only a normal depression at this moment in the west of India or east of Arabian Sea. That’s it,” a forecaster at the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) told Gulf News.
As of 12.30pm on Monday, the depression over east-central Arabian Sea moved west-northwestwards and weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area at 0830 hours IST (7am UAE time) as 12th October 2015 over east central Arabian Sea.
It would move west-northwestwards away from the west coast of India and weaken further during next 24 hrs, according to the India Meteorological Department.
The low pressure has no effect on UAE’s weather at present, the NCMS forecaster said. But if there is any change, NCMS will warn the public, the forecaster said. NCMS monitors UAE weather and even those of its neighbouring countries at all times.
“Anywhere there can be a low pressure [area]. A tropical cyclone or storm is another thing. A low pressure once it’s more developed becomes a depression, which can become a storm, then after that is a tropical cyclone. Now it’s still a low pressure. Right now, over Egypt there are low pressure areas but we cannot tell if they will develop into a storm right away,” the forecaster said.
Tuesday’s weather will be partly cloudy in general with chance of scattered fog specifically over central parts of the country. There is probability of convective cloud formation near the mountains.
The public is warned against heading out to sea on Tuesday as the western part of the Arabian Sea will be rough while the Oman Sea will be moderate in general.
Temperatures will be the same as on Monday with the coastal areas getting between 34 degrees Celsius and 38C and interior parts from 38C to 42C.
