Dubai: Two suspects have been accused of stealing an iPhone, iPad, iPod, eight laptops and Dh3,300 from an electronics shop after a break-in.

Prosecutors said the 23-year-old Asian worker, A.H., and another suspect, used a screwdriver to open a cash drawer in the shop and stole the money along with the goods. The second suspect failed to appear before the Dubai Court of First Instance.

According to the accusation sheet, A.H. and the second suspect had a reserve copy of keys to the store, so were able to let themselves in to carry out the heist.

The shop’s Chinese owner testified that his assistant called to inform him that the doors to the shop had been opened and the store had been robbed.

The owner said: “We closed the doors around 10pm. My assistant phoned me first thing in the morning and informed me that the shop was burglarised. When I examined the shop, I discovered that eight laptops, an iPhone, iPad and iPod were taken from the display shelves. The burglars broke the cash drawer with a screwdriver and stole Dh3,300. When we checked the surveillance cameras, we spotted two men whom we did not identify. According to the camera footage the suspects broke into the shop at 2am.”

Primary interrogation led to the arrest of A.H. and another suspect for their suspected involvement in the heist. A.H. strongly denied his involvement in the burglary, when questioned by the police.

An Emirati policeman, who questioned A.H., testified that the latter suspect strongly refuted the accusation when he was first arrested.

A Yemeni police corporal claimed to prosecutors: “Initially the two suspects who were detained denied the heist. However during further investigations, A.H. admitted that he and another suspect, identified as M.S., made a copy of the shop’s keys. They entered the shop and stole all the items then they broke the cash drawer and took the money.”

Presiding Judge Hamad Abdul Latif Abdul Jawad adjourned the case until A.H. is legally notified about the next hearing on July 5.
