Rabat: The UAE's Interior Ministry committee assigned to identify children born to foreign mothers and UAE fathers has finished examining 12 youths in Morocco.

Initial support was given to the youth upon examining their social and economic conditions and the committee is preparing to enroll them in programmes to strengthen their national identity.

The committee which started phase-1 in mid-year 2009 had examined similar cases in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Syria, Egypt and India and is preparing for phase-2 which starts early next year to bring the children whose documents are verified and meet the requirements, to the UAE to be reunited with their fathers.

Directive

Set up after directives from the political leadership and overseen by Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, the committee is made up of representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Social Affairs and chaired by Major General Nasser Al Menhali of the Interior Ministry.
