Determined DJ Maurice Joshua is the perfect example of how practice makes perfect.

Nominated for a Grammy Award three times for his work with artists including Destiny's Child, Michael Jackson and Britney Spears, the African-American producer eventually collected his statue on the fourth attempt.

Better still it was for a remix of Crazy in Love — one of Beyoncé's biggest hits.

"It felt great to finally win," he said ahead of a one-off gig at Sho Cho, Dubai Marine Club, tonight. "It was the most amazing experience. If anyone tells you different and says it doesn't mean anything I think they don't realise or appreciate its importance."

Most famous for his work with the Single Ladies singer, the partnership is often compared with the partnership of Mariah Carey and David Morales because they work so closely together.

"My style of music comes from the heart of Chicago which is the birthplace of house music, so I play with a lot of soul.

"I used to watch my brother Xavier who used to go see Frankie Knuckles DJ at the Powerplant back in the '80s. I wanted to know why he and his friends would get dressed at 1am and come back at 10am and I wanted to become just like him."

His big break came when he did a record with best friend Hot Hands Hula of the Outhere Brothers. This is Acid became a staple house record around the world.

He has since worked with Notorious B.I.G., the late Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, Yolanda Adams, Will Smith, Britney Spears, R. Kelly and more.

"I am inspired everyday by life itself. No matter what you're going through in life you always have a story to tell from love, pain, hurt or sorrow.

"The most important person in my life is my daughter. I want her to never have to suffer or be without. I want her to have a humble and cultured life. She brings me joy no matter what type of day I'm having. All this is for her."
