If someone dropped unconscious in front of you, would you know what to do?
The International Modern Hospital recreated this scenario in a flash mob in their facility to teach people the importance of knowing how to perform a Cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
This event was organised in association with Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services (DCAS) to demonstrate to the community how easy it is to learn this lifesaving skill.
DCAS provided CPR mannequins and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training units for the demonstration. Paramedics and emergency doctors showed participants what they would likely face in their daily life in case of an emergency.
The interactive flash mob supports the ambulance corporation’s efforts to enable and empower society with the necessary experience to deal with medical emergencies.
Dr Kishan Pakkal, CEO of IMH, said: “Employee-inspired CPR flash mob idea displays the imaginative and novel ways in which we can educate common people on the significance of CPR. It is very important that every person in the community knows about Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation to save lives and improve the quality of community health. We thank DCAS in joining hands with us to build a safe and healthy Dubai.”
A representative from DCAS team said when CPR is done within five minutes when a person collapses and when combined with professional care can increase survival rates by as much as 50 per cent. It can also “buy time” while waiting for paramedics to arrive.
Dr Rohit Kumar, Acting Medical Director, IMH said: “Time is of the essence when treating a cardiac arrest victim. Once the heart stops beating and blood flow stops, a person may lose consciousness within 15 seconds. Within another 30 to 60 seconds, he may stop breathing, and irreversible damage to his brain cells will follow after several minutes of oxygen deprivation.”
