Dubai: UAE telecom operator du has announced it is offering UAE residents free WiFi for one whole week.

The complimentary WiFi, which is part of the company’s #KeepOnGiving campaign, is available at more than 400 locations across the country and can be enjoyed by users starting today, Tuesday, until June 18.

du is the latest company to jump on the “giving” bandwagon during Ramadan. Etisalat had earlier launched a Ramadan offer to allow customers to enjoy high Internet data allowance for a very affordable cost

And what’s more, du assured that the free connection is ten times faster, so consumers can share social media posts, get in touch with their family or surf the Internet better during Ramadan at no extra cost.

“du has always held the belief that connectivity is a basic human right, and this was the premise for our WiFi UAE roll out across the emirates,” the company said in a statement.

“By offering clear and reliable services, we are empowering people from all walks of life to connect more and enhance communications with their loved ones during this special period,” said Fahad Al Hassawi, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Telco Services, Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company.

Most people access WiFi through mobile devices, which offer a huge source of revenue stream for telecommunications firms. According to published reports, mobile phone services account for 80 per cent of the telecom firms’ total revenues.

As of June 2017, du’s mobile phone subscribers hit 8.2 million, while Etisalat had 10.5 million.
