Dubai:  UAE telecom firm Etisalat is offering UAE residents a chance to stay connected with their friends and family this Ramadan without having to break the bank.

The company announced on Wednesday it is launching its “Ramadan Social Pack” which enables customers to enjoy 25GB of data for Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter for just Dh100. The price may sound like a good deal, with normal 6GB data plans costing approximately Dh100.

A number of companies, especially in the retail industry, have tapped into the giving spirit of Ramadan by reducing the prices of their products. Ramadan is not only the busiest season for spending on daily essentials, it is also that time of year when people spend longer hours on the internet.

According to a study exploring Arab user habits, people tend to spend more time online during Ramadan, with Facebook usage increasing by 30 per cent and Twitter by 33 per cent during the fasting month.

Etisalat said its latest Ramadan offering is geared towards helping customers spend less while keeping in touch with family and friends during the holy month.

“The special offer will enable Etisalat prepaid and postpaid customers to update their status, see what their family and friends are up to, share moments with them via Snapchat and Instagram stories and Twitter live videos.. without having to worry about running out of data,” Etisalat said in a statement.

Wasel prepaid customers will also get to enjoy a bonus the next time they recharge. "The special Ramadan deal gives them double the bonus on every recharge of Dh30 or more that can be used to make calls, send SMS and connect to the internet on a perminute basis," Etisalat added.

The bonus is valid for a week from the date of recharge and after the main balance runs out.
