Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi's National Gas Shipping Company (Ngsco) will shortly assume full control of its four LNG vessels currently managed by BP Shipping, a top company official said.

Dr Taher Al Kindi, General Manager, said Ngsco would thus become one of the largest gas shipping companies in the world by virtue of the size of its fully controlled fleet.

"The four vessels Al Khaznah, Ghasha, Shahamah and Ish are currently managed by BP shipping. However, plans are in place for Ngsco to assume full management control of all eight vessels in the near future," Al Kindi said in the latest issue of Adnoc News.

Ngsco owns eight LNG vessels and charters a molten sulphur vessel. Four LNG vessels Mubaraz, Umm Al Ashtan, Al Hamra and Mraweh are self-managed by Ngsco.

"The eight vessels have so far delivered over 900 LNG shipments on time and safely," said Al Kindi.

Ngsco was set up in 1993 to transport gas produced by Adgas on Das Island, mainly to Tokyo Electric Power Company after Adgas signed a 25-year agreement with the firm.
