Abu Dhabi: Tawasul Transport, in collaboration with the Integrated Transport Centre, (Abu Dhabi Mobility) Al Futtaim Motors (BYD), and supported by Streamax Technology, has announced the launch of an electric taxi service, marking the first initiative to utilize BYD electric vehicles as taxis in the country. This initiative represents a significant step towards sustainable urban transport and aims to position Abu Dhabi as a leader in environmentally friendly urban mobility, the company said in a media release.

This partnership seeks to promote the use of clean and sustainable taxis in Abu Dhabi, aligning with the United Arab Emirates' vision for environmental sustainability. The move aims to enhance operational efficiency within Tawasul Transport's fleet by integrating advanced technologies and utilizing electric power, supported by strategic partner Streamax in coordination with the Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility). The plan includes connecting the smart data unit to vehicle data for monitoring, control, and display of operational information on a unified platform.

The introduction of electric taxis is designed to achieve several key environmental, economic, and social objectives. Electric vehicles (EVs) offer multiple benefits, including reducing harmful emissions to improve air quality and lessen environmental impact. They enhance operational efficiency by optimizing maintenance, managing energy consumption, improving itineraries, and decreasing mileage, creating an integrated transportation system. EVs also promote financial sustainability through lower operating and maintenance costs, while decreasing dependency on fossil fuels by shifting towards renewable energy sources. Additionally, EVs improve service quality with reduced noise and pollution, fostering a better user experience. The transition to electric vehicles drives innovation in green technology, supporting advancements in clean transportation solutions and system integration.

In this context, Ghena Jbour, General Manager of Tawasul Transport, reiterated the company's dedication to creating an environmentally friendly transportation system to build a greener future. "We are committed to advancing our fleet with innovative solutions that support the development of smart, sustainable transportation systems," said Jbour.

"Our goal is to inspire our partners to join us in the transition towards a more sustainable and environmentally responsible future. EVs are considered an important experience in this context. This shows our commitment to improving services with global standards, increasing operational efficiency, and implementing sustainable and intelligent transportation solutions. These efforts are in line with government directives in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi," Jbour added.
