ABU DHABI: Abu Dhabi-based Indian expat Jenniffer Joe Adaikalam has filed a complaint with the Abu Dhabi Consumer Court after she was sold an expired cosmetic product by a leading beauty care store.

“I bought a make up-foundation cream for about Dh200 from the store in a popular mall on July 12. When I reached home later that night, I happened to notice that the expiry date on the product was March 1, 2018. I was aghast. How could such a well-known store stock, let alone sell, an expired product of a top brand?” said the 45-year-old mother of two.

Refund

Jenniffer said she went back to the store to ask for a refund. “I didn’t want to get any other product from there, so I wanted my money back. Unfortunately, the store manager was not available as it was a Friday. So I was asked to contact the local call centre and file a complaint. I did accordingly and five days later, the manager turned up at my office with a bag full of goodies along with another package of the cream. I accepted the cream but returned the goodie bag. I also returned the expired product. But I was in for another surprise.”

Jenniffer said the new cream package did not have any production or expiry date. “The package seemed odd too. It was as if the transparent film over the box had been changed or the dates scratched off,” she alleged.

The woman said she got back to the manager to find out why there were no dates, but she was told the new batch of cream did not carry any such details. “I refuse to believe the claim. This is unacceptable,” she said.

XPRESS contacted the beauty care store but did not receive a response.
