Dubai: The terrifying moment a man with a meat cleaver put it to the throat of a woman in the street has been captured by an opportunist photographer.
These dramatic pictures show the cleaver-wielding assailant at the Kunming News Centre in Yunnan Province, China on Tuesday.

Threatening to cut the woman’s throat, the man held the woman hostage for over an hour and refused to calm down despite the attempts of police negotiators.

The area was cordoned off as the stand-off continued, officers doing their best to free the clearly terrified woman.
Officers in plain clothes were eventually able to surprise the man and tackle him to the ground (Reuters)
Eventually the knifeman was tackled to the ground by police in plain clothes, who took him by surprise, according to the Daily Mail.
The Mail also reported that the woman fainted after she was freed, before being taken to hospital.
The man’s right hand was injured.
The motivation for the attack is unknown.
