Cairo: An Egyptian court on Saturday ordered that Dubai Prosecutor Shoaib Ali Ahli be summoned to Cairo to give his testimony in the current trial hearing of the murder of a Lebanese pop singer in the emirate almost two years ago.

The Cairo Criminal Court also decided to obtain the fingerprints of Alex Kazaki, a British national, who had an alleged affair with the Lebanese diva Suzan Tamim, who was found dead in her luxury apartment in Dubai in July 2008.

The two orders were made in response to requests from defence lawyers for the two defendants in the case - Mohsin Al Sukari, an ex-policeman, and Hesham Talaat Mustafa, one of Egypt's leading real estate developers.

Mohsin is accused of receiving $2 million from Hesham to kill Suzan with whom the latter had a failed love affair. Both defendants have pleaded not guilty.

In May 2009, a Cairo criminal court sentenced Mohsin and Hesham to death for involvement in the slaying of Suzan. But last March, the Court of Cassation, Egypt's highest judicial authority, overturned the ruling and ordered a retrial. The court cited lack of and faulty evidence.

The court said it would resume the high-profile case on Sunday in the presence of a specialist to examine more photos allegedly taken of Mohsin in Dubai before and after Suzan was murdered.

Since it came to surface in August 2008, the case has riveted attention across the Arab world because the co-defendant, Hesham, is an influential politician in President Hosni Mubarak's party.
