Manama: A Saudi man was killed by his first wife after she shot him twice, local reports said.

The man’s second wife was also injured in the shooting that took place on Tuesday morning in Al Jouf, a region in the north of the country, bordering Jordan. She was taken to a hospital in the city of Sakakah for treatment.

Abdul Rahman Al Muwaishar, the media spokesperson for the police in Al Jouf, said that the suspect is in her thirties and that she used a pistol to shoot her husband and his second wife.

“The suspect was arrested and transferred to a women’s prison as an investigation into the shooting has been launched,” he said, local daily Al Riyadh reported.

No reason for the fatal shooting that reportedly occurred at around 3.30am was given, but some reports said that the victim had recently married his second wife.

Other reports speculated that an intense argument between the man and his first wife was the cause of the deadly incident.

Polygamy is common in Saudi Arabia, particularly in rural areas.
