Dubai: A Saudi woman, diagnosed with COVID-19, has given birth to a healthy baby girl at Dhahran General Hospital in Asir region, local media reported on Tuesday.

A highly qualified medical team at the hospital performed a C- section on the woman, after being tested positive for COVID-19.

The Asir region health authorities said the hospital’s medical staff dealt with the case carefully, in accordance with the protocols and precautionary measures necessary for coronavirus-infected cases.

They noted that the hospital’s infection control team were present at the operation room.

“The woman was taken immediately to the operating room after she suffered severe labour pain,” the spokesperson for Asir Health Affairs was quoted as saying.

The new born baby, who has been admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), was screened for Covid-19, but the result has yet to be revealed. The mother has been admitted to an isolation room and is in a stable health condition.

Health experts say that pregnant women are at a high risk of contracting Covid-19 as compared to any other adult.
