Abu Dhabi: A young man was killed and another seriously injured after an SUV they were travelling in fell off a cliff at Jabal Al Sawda mountain in Al Reeth Governorate in Jizan, southwestern Saudi Arabia, Civil Defence sources said.

The injured was thrown from the SUV before it hit the ground down the cliff and that’s what saved him.

Rescue crews could get to the injured and get him to hospital and pulled the dead man out of the vehicle, sources said.

Residents said barriers were built, but not enough to secure dangerous sites. They repeatedly demanded expanding the road to the mountain, which is visited by hundreds every day and has thousands of residents, according to Sabq newspaper.

“Also, some of these barriers can hardly be fixed in place, so how will they contribute to preventing the vehicles from falling?,” the paper asked.
